RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

In the programme, students not only acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of religious and pilgrimage tourism, but also learn the scientific approach to the phenomenon and its its research study. In particular, the following are taught in this field:

  • The history of tourism research
  • Methodology of tourism research
  • Research and use of sources and texts containing religious and theological information
  • Interpretative and analytical methods of approaching religious monuments and works of art
  • Ecological and environmental approaches

Throughout the semesters, students practice writing short scholarly papers using scientific methods and literature. At the end of their studies, students are required to write a Master’s Thesis, which demonstrates their ability to carry out research work and a comprehensive scientific synthesis related to the programme’s subject matter.

Specific research objectives of the programme

In particular, the programme aims to:

  1. To provide graduate students with a solid scientific foundation, equipping them with the epistemological and methodological principles, knowledge and skills that enable them to engage in and enhance creative thinking in the context of ethically responsible scientific and research activity. Additionally, it aims to foster the critical and practical skills required for research.
  2. To enable postgraduate students through the provision of specialised knowledge and systematic practical practice in the synthetic approach to the above-mentioned disciplines.
  3. To promote interdisciplinary research by teaching and discussing complex research topics related to religious and pilgrimage tourism, and to lead to the production of high-quality related postgraduate theses.
