OBJECT AND PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME

The object of the I.P.P. in "Religious and Pilgrimage Tourism" is the study and research of issues related to various religious and pilgrimage sites in Greece, the Balkans, Asia Minor, and the Holy Land. The development and use of new methods is highlighted as a means to explore and promote the significance of these sites, as validated by ancient sources and traditions.

The purpose of the I.P.P. is to cultivate and promote scientific knowledge and research in fields related to the theoretical background of religious and pilgrimage tourism. Additionally, it aims to provide and enhance skills for individuals interested in working in the field, either professionally in the public or private sector or those already engaged in it.

The main objectives of the Programme are as follows:

a) To offer high-level postgraduate studies on the subject and develop critical and research skills required for doctoral studies.

b) To train graduates with specialized knowledge in religious and pilgrimage tourism.

c) To develop capacities for the interdisciplinary treatment of complex practical issues.

d) To approach the subject academically through research, utilizing various scientific resources from related disciplines.

e) To acquire skills for the organization and general management of religious and pilgrimage tourism data for relevant tourism projects.

f) To produce new knowledge and scientific work that enriches understanding of the subject, deepens the phenomenon of religious and pilgrimage tourism, and contributes to the interpretation of its various aspects.

g) To train theologians, historians, philologists, Church officials, and tourism professionals with relevant knowledge. This training aims to enable them to offer high-quality professional services and become executives in organizations related to the Programme's fields.

A specific objective of the I.P.P. is the pastoral training of individuals involved in relevant Church activities. This involves deepening specialized theological study, contributing to inter-Church relations, and connecting the science of Theology to society.
